My first Mother’s Day was nothing like I had imagined. Instead of breakfast in bed or a heartfelt gesture, my husband decided to go out with friends, leaving me to care for our newborn alone. I spent the day trying to soothe our crying baby, feeling abandoned and unappreciated. When he finally staggered back home at 2 AM, completely drunk, he didn’t even apologize. But I wasn’t done yet. I had something planned that would truly make him regret his actions….

The sun barely peeked through the curtains as I quietly got out of bed, careful not to disturb the baby. Anger surged within me, but it was mixed with determination. How could he leave us like that? I knew I had to do something. It was time for a change, and it started with packing up and moving out—at least for a while. My resolve was set. Today, I was putting myself and our baby first.

With a deep breath, I tiptoed around our room, grabbing diapers, bottles, and a few of my own belongings. Each item I packed felt like a step toward reclaiming my life. My husband slept soundly, unaware of the shift happening right beside him. I dressed the baby in her little outfit, whispering, "We're going on an adventure, sweetie." The door clicked softly as I closed it behind me, leaving an empty space he’d surely notice.
