I was sipping my soda at the café when I saw him—my dad, holding hands with a woman who wasn’t my mother. I felt sick as I watched him lean in close to her, laughing like he didn’t have a family waiting at home. 'Should I call Mom?' I thought, but then an idea struck me. One that would make him regret every sneaky move he’d made...
Walking into the café, I tried to act normal as I slipped into a booth in the corner to get a better view of him. There was my dad, sitting across from a woman who definitely wasn’t my mom. The lady, with her bright smile and a hand raised in silent laughter, seemed pretty comfortable. She was beautiful... I watched them silently, wondering if anyone else would notice the obvious lie forming right in front of me.
But who was this woman?! I couldn't make any sense of it. I was sure I'd never seen her before, and I wondered how my dad could know her. Did Mom know her? I wanted to shake my head to wake up before this turned into a nightmare, but this wasn't a dream; this was really happening. My heart was about to explode as I saw her take his hand. What was going on between the two of them?
They burst out laughing and other people looked at them, but they didn't notice. It's like they saw no one else around them. Dad's hand reached over and their fingers intertwined, like two puzzle pieces fitting together. They had obviously done this before... The looks they exchanged were intimate, and they were acting like lovers who had nothing to hide. Unbelievable! I strained to hear more, pointing my ears over the background noise.
